Class 1 is an exciting place where our Reception children begin their most important learning journey that will zoom them forward, onwards and upwards through the Early Learning Goals. This year is the springboard that will set prepare them for the wider opportunities and challenges in the more formal setting of KS1 next year. By the end of this year we aim to make sure they are more than ready to move up.
Our Class 1 staff are Mrs Heerin and Mrs Burns who are always available morning and afternoon at the Class 1 entrance to answer questions and to help in any way they can.
Fruits of the Holy Spirit
Two of our lovely children were nominated by their peers to receive a sticker for showing the Fruits of the Holy Spirit.
World Book Day
We all celebrated World Book day by getting dressed us as our favourite book character. All the children looked wonderful and had made a great effort on their costumes. We wrote a book review for our favourite book and shared our favourite books.
We read the story of Handa’s surprise. We investigated the different fruits in the story by looking at them with magnifying glasses and doing a taste test. We made a bar chart to show our favourite fruits. Avocado was not a popular fruit!
We love our Expedition days at Christ the King. We enjoy worshipping Jesus though song and dance. We are already looking forward to another visit next half term.
Chinese New Year
Reception class celebrated Chinese New Year with a week of fun activities. We set up a Chinese restaurant, made our own stir-fry and learnt about Chinese cultures. We enjoyed learning about how the Chinese Zodiac got its name.
In Godly Play this term we learnt about Baptism
This half term we had a Godly Play lesson with Mrs Boyes about Baptism. She explained how a new baby is Baptised and welcomed into the family of God. We each lit a candle to remember our own Baptism and told each other our special name.
We loved having a visit from an exciting storyteller
We had a visit from a storyteller and he told us the story of The Gingerbread Man. Afterwards we had a go at writing the story ourselves. Mrs Heerin was so impressed with our work. Some of our work was published onto Pobble.
Our Friend Oslo
Before Christmas we went to visit a Reindeer. His name was Oslo. We each got to hold him and have our picture taken with him. He was so soft and friendly. It really got us in the Christmas spirit.
Stay and Pray Advent
Before Christmas we invited our Parents into school to join us in a stay and pray session. We led our liturgy ourselves. It was a beautiful collective worship and our Parents enjoyed taking part. We look forward to inviting parents in again soon.
We love to learn outdoors. The forest behind our school is a great place to explore and investigate. The possibilities are endless.
